ByteDance turns AI short dramas into an assembly line: 100000 novels are adapted into scripts, and completed short dramas can be remade for overseas markets

Beating AI Flash News: ByteDance today launched “Jimeng Short Drama Studio,” bringing screenwriting, character design, storyboarding, video generation, and post-production onto a single platform.

The script model DreamScript supports parsing 100000 long-form novels and continuously generating up to 100 episodes of scripts, while also checking for plot conflicts and character settings. The storyboard model DreamShot provides a 3D director console, enabling advance adjustments to camera positions and camera movement and previewing shooting results. Characters, costumes, and scenes in the script are automatically organized into an asset library for reuse in subsequent shots. If a generated shot is unsatisfactory, it can also be reshot individually.

The feature best suited to taking short dramas overseas is “remake-to-render.” After uploading a completed short drama,AI will break down its characters, scenes, props, and shots, then regenerate visuals according to the target region, artistic style, and aspect ratio, while seeking to retain the original pacing and visual language—effectively using the original production to reshoot an overseas version.

Many of these features come from ByteDance’s Xiaoyunque. This year March, Xiaoyunque launched a short drama Agent,August and already had remake-to-render.October 24,36 36Kr disclosed that Xiaoyunque has been integrated into Jimeng, while retaining a separate access point.
