Analysis: Global debt continues to rise, benefiting Bitcoin as fiat currency purchasing power declines

BlockBeats News,September 26, according to Forbes, Bitcoin came close to 90000 USD. Meanwhile, global debt continues to rise, and the “debasement trade,” centered on declining fiat currency purchasing power, has become one factor driving Bitcoin, gold, and other assets higher.

Data from the Institute of International Finance shows that global debt increased by 10000000000000 USD in the first half of this year, bringing the total above 365000000000000 USD. U.S. debt has exceeded 40000000000000 USD, while annual interest expenses have risen to 1270000000000 USD, surpassing defense and healthcare spending and ranking second only to Social Security spending. The institute warned that interest costs will increase further as benchmark interest rates rise.

Nic Puckrin, founder of Coin Bureau and a cross-asset analyst, said that the current environment is favorable for “currency debasement assets” such as Bitcoin and gold, which is also one reason for Bitcoin’s recent rise. The greater the debt burden of major economies, the more likely it is to push down real borrowing costs and allow inflation to erode the real value of debt, thereby increasing the appeal of such trades.

Analysts at The Kobeissi Letter pointed out that USD purchasing power has declined by 2020 since 23%; if assets rose by only 30%, investors would essentially have merely broken even in terms of real purchasing power. The U.S. inflation rate has remained above the Federal Reserve’s 60 target for 2%consecutive months.
