Instinct and Muse arrived at the same idea: free Agents, funded by transaction commissions

Beating AI breaking news, individual AI Agent Instinct founder Noah Shinn discussed in his first in-depth public interview how the company plans to make money.

Shinn hopes Instinct will ultimately remain free for the long term, without charging users subscription fees. After an Agent books hotels, shops, or completes other transactions on a user's behalf, Instinct would charge a small commission to the merchants receiving the orders. However, this is currently only his goal; Instinct has not promised permanent free access for now.

Shinn also clearly does not want to do advertising. Personal Agents will understand users better over time and become increasingly capable of influencing their decisions. If the platform makes money through advertising, the Agent could start persuading users to buy things they had not originally planned to purchase. He would rather Instinct make money only from transactions users already intended to complete.

The exact commission rate has not yet been determined. Shinn uses the platform commissions charged by Shopify, Amazon, and Apple as reference points. Currently, about half of Instinct's transaction volume comes from travel, and some boutique hotels are willing to pay commissions of more than 30%for orders it brings them, although Instinct may not charge such a high rate.

Coincidentally, this is also the model Zuckerberg previously envisioned for Muse: most users would use it for free, while the Agent would charge merchants who gain business after it completes transactions for users.
