CopilotKit Open-Sources OpenMuse: Build Your Own Private AI Assistant That Can Browse the Web and Run a Terminal
Beating AI newsflash: AI application development framework CopilotKit has open-sourced OpenMuse, a personal AI Agent that provides a self-deployable, Muse-style private assistant. It supports iOS, Android, and the Web. The Agent has its own Chromium browser and can access a Linux terminal and file system to continuously execute tasks in the background. The project is built on CopilotKit and AG-UI and can also integrate with different Agent harnesses.
Beyond chat, it can save task plans, goals, and progress, and connect to Gmail and Google Calendar. For actions such as sending emails or modifying schedules, it first asks the user for confirmation. The browser and terminal can also be opened directly, allowing users to see what the Agent is doing and take over at any time.
However, the project remains in Alpha. Full testing with real Google accounts and real models has not yet been completed, and cross-device synchronization still needs validation. Automated payments, ticket booking, banking, and social connectors remain on the roadmap.
CopilotKit has previously open-sourced projects including OpenBot and OpenGenerativeUI. It has consistently favored turning new Agent product formats into open-source reference implementations that can be self-deployed, modified, and further developed.
