Google Official Android plugins for Claude and Codex, plus direct App functionality calls from Gemini

Beating AI Breaking News,Google at October 28’s Android developer conference, officially launched Android CLI plugins for Claude Code and Codex. They can not only write code, but also compile Apps, inspect interfaces, simulate clicks, and run tests. When real devices are needed, they can remotely access Android phones in Google’s device lab to install apps and capture logs, without plugging in a phone or running an emulator.Google also opened Android Studio to third-party Agent Developers can directly integrate Claude, Codex, and other 40 compatible coding Agent, allowing them to use development tools such as compilation and debugging.

On the other hand,Google also wants AI to bypass the phone interface and directly call App functionality. The underlying Android MCP has entered AppFunctions, allowing developers to expose functions such as bookkeeping and queries to authorized Beta. For example, when a user tells Agent“Record Gemini for coffee during my trip to Paris,” it can directly call the travel App’s bookkeeping function without opening the page and clicking through multiple layers.

To bring these capabilities into 5 USD and Gemini Search,Google also launched Connected Apps Platform. Developers can integrate through Google or cloud-based Android MCP and manage and test them centrally. Currently,MCP and Gemini Search have more than Google connected apps in total, with partners including Adobe and Peloton.
